What would you do when you see this shadow? Well, whatever you can. Embrace it. Confront it. Shout it at. Anything you do is valid. The only thing that matters is moving forward.

Post-graduate blues is the best thing that could happen to you. This is because if you feel lost, you have so many pathways that you can go along. Find the best one that works for you. The sense of optimism and hopefulness guides you to face new challenges in life and reflect on yourself. It is not doom and gloom. It is bloom and growth. A new chapter. A self-discovery. A higher value self.

So you may be wondering why I am saying this and not giving you any steps of getting out of a post-graduate blues rut. Here are a few things to do when you feel “stuck” or “lost”:

Ways to Relieve the Post-Graduate Blues

Rest

Take a break and a time out. Look at far you have come. You deserve to relax and rest for yourself, and no one else. Remember that rest is productive. Watch your favorite show, take a walk, do a self-care routine etc. Anything to rest your mind.

Self Journal

With post-graduate blues, we tend to miss our university experiences and reminisce about the good times. Reflect on your journey from when you started to when you finished. Reflect on the good and bad times. How did those events make you feel? What skills have you developed? What do you miss about university? Make your self-journal into a mini storybook as a reflection of this chapter of your life.

Set a routine on your weekly calendar

In university or school, you had everything scheduled every week and you just had to attend those lectures, seminars, etc. Now that has come to an end, create a routine that suits you. This should include things you want to do, or learning a new skill. This new routine will leave you optimistic as you schedule things in the upcoming weeks that you can look forward to and leave a sense of purpose yourself. Therefore, increasing your high vibrational level.

Create a SWOT analysis about yourself

A SWOT analysis consists of analysing your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This is a perfect building block to figure out what you would like to do next but also rediscover your identity and yourself as an individual. It takes no more than 10 minutes. If you get stuck thinking of ideas, ask someone you trust to help you :)

Learn a new skill

There is nothing more special than seeking out new knowledge and learning different things. This can take your mind off other responsibilities going on by including learning a new skill. This could be learning a new language, learning coding, etc. As our society has easy access to resources, you could search the new skills on YouTube, Google, or even TikTok. Blocking off one hour a week to learn is great. Your future self will thank you!

Post-graduate blues are inevitable and can make you feel hopeless and worthless. Just remember that you need to take it day by day and be one per cent better each day. Yes, you can have days when you don’t want to do anything and it is okay to rest. However, don’t let your emotions make you feel stagnant and stuck. When you do feel this way, journal, journal, and journal.

Sending virtual hugs
